My new lathe! (Below left)
This is the lathe I've been eyeballing at a local antique mart for about three months. After losing several bids on Ebay, I bit the bullet and made an offer. He took it!
The main rail is marked "American Watch-Tool Co", while the headstock is marked "Webster-Whitcomb, with a serial #22896. The tail stock has no mfg. mark, but shows a patent date of 1909. It came with a "Hamilton Beach" "Home Motor",rated 115 ac/dc volts, .7 amps, and pat.1917. There are 15 collets, including a stepped collet for facing operations.
If you know anything about this machine, I'd appreciate hearing from you!

My new toy!

Rosewood Ingraham "figure 8" Mantel clock case

A Kundo Anniversary clock. This one is a miniature, and lives in that rather interesting glass and brass case.

Some progress with the lathe; this is the drive motor. It is a Hamilton Beach "Home Motor". It is 115 volt ac/dc reversible, and is mounted on a spring loaded pivot. I have rewired it using a speed control from an old Singer sewing machine, which is happily rated for the same 0.7 amps as the motor. Just waiting for a new mandrel, which among other things will act as an idler.

Another Ingraham clock, of the "Gingerbread"type. The door glass is a modern replacement, but I hope to get the proper type soon.

My first complete repair job, a Kundo 400 day torsion pendulum clock. Disassembled, cleaned, new suspension spring, and put in beat. It works! In the background is a 1763 Diderot print showing the tools of the horologist

A neat little watch by Loius Jacot, Locle, Switzerland. I can't find much info about Louis; any data much appreciated.

A Diderot print, ca.1763, showing"Different tools of horology". Several of these tools have changed very little, and are still used by watch and clock makers.

...and here is what they did with those tools. Another Diderot print, showing a fusee drive cylinder escapement.

A new clock! Dial says "Manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Co., New York, United States of America. The colours on the bezel are an artifact of the software. Casting # 489. Any info?
